What is Alcoholics Anonymous, Al-Anon and Alateen?

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) is a nonprofessional, self-supporting fellowship of people who have a drinking problem. Al-Anon and Alateen are similar groups for those affected by someone else’s drinking. Although not based in any specific religious tradition, the core of the AA, Al-Anon and Alateen programs are spiritual principles embodied in the Twelve Steps and the Twelve Traditions. The Steps are principles meant to help members face their drinking obsession and lead them to recovery and personal growth. The Traditions serve the group as a whole. One-on-one sharing and sponsorship are also cornerstones of AA programs.

How do I get involved?

Alcoholics Anonymous, Al-Anon and Alateen meetings are available internationally and open to anyone, regardless of age, education, ethnicity, religion or political affiliation. Local databases of meetings can be accessed on the AA website. Links provided in the page below.
