What is Kundalini Yoga?
Kundalini yoga transforms the complexities of modern life into a rich tapestry of joys and blessings, using ancient yogic practices that really work.
A prescribed series of poses (kriyas) create profound beneficial effects for your physical health, your state of mind, and your spirit.
Kundalini yogis notice that they look younger, sleep better, have more energy, feel more creative, enjoy more satisfying personal relationships, and experience less stress—along with an abundance of happiness.
Kundalini yoga is like an endless box of jewels, with each practice bringing a beautiful, precious and lasting gift.
How do I practice Kundalini yoga?
The practice centers on the Kriya (“action”), which may be a single posture or a combination of movements, done together with breath work that anchors and guides the motion of the kriya. The breath regulates the energy of life, the quality of our emotions, and the ability to direct the mind--the purpose of the practice. Mantras (sacred sounds), mudras (hand positions), bandhas (body locks), and eye focus work in harmony to direct and contain the flow of the spiritual energy within. Each kriya is a self-contained, multifunctional vehicle that facilitates energetic flow.
What are the challenges and commitments of the practice?
A goal of the practice is to experience a surge of energy along the spinal column. If the body/nervous system is healthy, you will experience this movement of energy as blissful. If your nervous system is blocked and your emotions are not stable, this movement of energy may have negative effects. The kundalini awakening makes you energetic. Your stamina and endurance will increase, and if you don’t have a good understanding of the higher dimensions of life, this energy will make you productive only at the physical level. The challenge is to channel that energy to become an instrument of spiritual awakening.
What are some tips and reminders?
When sitting to meditate, remember: correct alignment; support your limbs; warm up first; cover your spine and head; and find the right yoga music that resonates with you.
