What is Tantra Yoga?

Tantra yoga says we can become more enlightened in our daily life. Rather than needing to transcend our bodies, Tantra yoga says everyday life provides the terrain for deeper awareness. We can achieve fulfillment by weaving together spiritual practice in our daily, material existence. Tantra is a systematic approach that works with everything available to us, including diet, breath, physical bodies, sense, attention, and yoga. (Beth Berila)

How do I practice Tantra Yoga?

There are many different Tantric Practices, including Hatha yoga, Yoga Nidra, Meditation, and Pranayama. Each is designed, in a different way, to cultivate awareness and compassion through our embodiment. The idea is to reflect upon our everyday existence as the path to greater fulfillment. The various systematic practices are designed to help us tap into Shakti, or the Divine source within each of us.

Challenges and Commitments of practice

Focused awareness can be difficult when we are so used to multitasking. Many of us are disconnected from our bodies. Sinking into our embodied experience with compassion and awareness is a process we learn over time. Start with short practices and recognize that even the challenges are the fertile ground for learning about ourselves.

Tips and Reminders

Try to cultivate 10 minutes a day for a regular meditation practice, with longer Hatha yoga practices once or twice a week. If possible, choose a regular time for your practice and make it a part of your daily ritual. If you miss a day, try again the next day. Partner up with a friend.
